 Saxony
Welcome to Saxony - Germany's most dynamic federal state

There's a lot we could write about Saxony here. But let us turn to other sources for an assessment. It has recently been established that Saxony is the most dynamic federal state in Germany. In the 2004 ranking of the 16 federal states (Bundesländer), the New Social Market Economy Initiative (INSM) and the business journal 'WirtschaftsWoche' found that Saxony had made the greatest economic progress.

Saxony tops the table ahead of Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate. Good marks for prosperity, structure and location brought the Free State forward from 6th position in 2003. "The highest rate of economic growth, the second highest rate of investment and the lowest debt increase make Saxony a shooting star among the German federal states," says the managing director of the New Social Market Economy Initiative, Tasso Enzweiler, in response to this result. The deputy chief editor of 'WirtschaftsWoche', Klaus Methfessel, praises the extraordinary achievement of the people of Saxony: "The Free State has taken up the challenge of federal competition and has succeeded in spite of the difficult conditions in eastern Germany." The development of all the Länder was recorded from 2001 to 2003. The analysis, which was carried out by a research team led by the Institute of the German Economy in Cologne (Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft Köln Consult GmbH), was based on 30 economic and locationally relevant indicators - from economic power to education spending.
